Job Description
We are seeking experienced Pediatric Emergency Department RNs for night shift positions at our Level 1 Trauma Center in Syracuse, NY. This role requires specialized expertise in pediatric emergency care, with a focus on rapid assessment, trauma response, and family-centered interventions. Candidates must have dedicated Pediatric ED experience—applicants with only combined Adult/Pediatric ED backgrounds will not be considered.
Contract Details
- Location: Syracuse, NY 13210
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (Start Date: ASAP, End Date: 7/30)
- Shift: 19:00–07:30 (12-hour nights)
- Schedule: Every other weekend & select holidays required
- Weekly Pay: $2,022.90 (MI&L included in rate)
- Contract Type: Full-time contract
Qualifications
- Current New York State RN License (required)
- BLS Certification (current or eligible for recertification)
- Minimum 2 years recent experience (within the last 2 years) in an acute care facility of comparable size/acuity
- Primary experience in a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department required
- Level 1 or 2 Trauma Center experience preferred
- Formal triage training and certification required
- Adult ED experience considered a secondary asset
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Must pass pre-employment health screening, drug test, and background check
Skills & Requirements
- Expert triage skills with ability to prioritize critical cases rapidly
- Proficiency in pediatric trauma care and emergency interventions
- Strong crisis management abilities in high-stress situations
- Family-centered communication to support anxious parents/guardians
- Technical competency with EPIC EMR documentation
- Collaborative approach with multidisciplinary teams (physicians, respiratory therapists, social workers)
- Commitment to maintaining a trauma-informed care environment
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver expert nursing care to pediatric patients in urgent/emergent conditions
- Conduct rapid assessments and implement evidence-based triage protocols
- Respond to trauma alerts and critical care situations as part of the code team
- Administer medications, perform IV insertions, and assist with emergency procedures
- Document care thoroughly and efficiently using EPIC EMR
- Educate families on diagnoses, treatments, and discharge instructions
- Maintain readiness of emergency equipment and pediatric-specific supplies
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and debrief sessions
- Adhere to protocols for suspected child abuse/neglect reporting
