Job Description
Cure Staffing is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) for a Critical Care Adult PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) position. This is a 13-week contract role, starting ASAP and ending July 30. The RN will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing pre-operative and post-anesthesia care to a diverse adult patient population in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
- Location: Syracuse, NY 13215
- Shift: 6 shifts per pay period (12-hour shifts), 11:00–23:30 or 19:00–07:30
- Weekends: Every 3rd weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Weekly Salary $2720 (MI&L included)
Qualifications
- Current New York State Registered Nurse License (required)
- Current BLS certification (or eligible for recertification)
- Minimum 2 years recent experience (within the past 2 years) in an acute care setting of similar size/acuity
- Critical care experience required; PACU experience preferred
- Experience in a Level 1 or Level 2 trauma center or similar teaching hospital preferred
- No history of license suspension, investigation, or liability claims
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment health screening, drug testing, and background check
Skills & Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal orientation and perform core patient care functions
- Proficiency in comprehensive patient assessment and monitoring, including recognizing and responding to complications related to anesthesia and surgery
- Comfortable in a high-pressure, high-acuity environment
- Strong attention to detail while monitoring patients’ vital signs and recovery status
- Proficiency with electronic medical records, preferably EPIC or similar hospital management systems
- Ability to educate and communicate effectively with patients and families regarding post-operative care and discharge instructions
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide pre-operative assessments and patient education for surgical patients
- Deliver post-anesthesia care, including monitoring recovery, managing complications, and ensuring safe emergence from anesthesia
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, administer medications, and manage pain and nausea as needed
- Monitor and stabilize patients’ vital signs, airway, and overall condition following surgery
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective transitions of care
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately in the EPIC Electronic Medical Record system
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well-stocked recovery environment, including checking emergency equipment and supplies at the start of each shift
- Educate patients and families on post-surgical care, discharge instructions, and at-home recovery procedures
- Participate in quality improvement activities and contribute to a positive team environment
- Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and best practices for patient safety and infection control
Additional Information:
- Travel RNs will only be considered if they have experience in facilities of equal or greater size/acuity
- Must be able to work independently and adapt quickly to changing patient needs and priorities
