Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Adult Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) team in Syracuse, NY (13215) for a 13-week contract. This role involves providing high-quality pre-operative and post-anesthesia care to adult patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. The RN will work 12-hour shifts (07:00–19:30 and 11:00–23:30), six shifts per two-week period, with a weekend requirement of every third weekend. No on-call duties are required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong critical thinking, adaptability, and a commitment to patient safety throughout the perioperative process
Contract Details
- Location: Syracuse, NY 13215
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (Start Date: ASAP, End Date: 7/30)
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (07:00–19:30 and 11:00–23:30), 6 shifts per two-week period
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Weekly Salary: $2720 (MI&L included)
Qualifications
- Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license (required)
- Current BLS certification (required; must be current or eligible for recertification)
- Minimum two years of recent experience (within the past two years) in an acute care facility of similar size and acuity
- Critical care experience required; PACU experience strongly preferred
- Experience with EPIC Electronic Medical Records preferred
- Travel RNs considered only if experienced in facilities of equal or greater size or trauma level
- No history of professional license suspension, certification investigation, or involvement in professional liability claims
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Must successfully pass pre-employment health clearance, drug screening, and criminal background check
Skills & Requirements
- Ability to perform essential patient care functions independently with minimal orientation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in comprehensive patient assessment, monitoring, and documentation
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, especially in high-acuity, fast-paced settings
- Proficiency with hospital electronic medical records systems (EPIC preferred)
- Detail-oriented with the ability to quickly recognize and respond to complications or changes in patient condition
- Ability to educate patients and families regarding post-operative care and discharge instructions
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments and prepare patients for surgical procedures
- Monitor and care for patients recovering from anesthesia in the PACU, including vital sign monitoring and pain management
- Identify and respond promptly to potential complications or medical emergencies post-procedure
- Administer medications and manage post-surgical pain and symptoms
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other care team members to ensure safe, effective patient care
- Accurately document all aspects of patient care using EPIC Electronic Medical Records
- Provide patient and family education regarding post-surgery care and discharge instructions
- Ensure patient stability and readiness for transfer or discharge from the PACU
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well-stocked recovery environment, checking emergency equipment and supplies as needed
- Participate in quality improvement activities and support a positive team environment
