## Recreation Therapist ##

Location: Syracuse, NY 

Salary: $38.00 / hr 

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Recreation Therapist to join our healthcare team at a leading hospital in Syracuse, NY. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting therapeutic recreational activities that promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of patients.

 Qualifications

– Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or a related field

– Minimum of 1 year of professional recreation experience in a therapeutic instructional or rehabilitation setting

– Must successfully pass pre-employment health clearance

 Key Responsibilities

– Conduct recreational activities for client/patient groups, working individually or as part of a treatment team

– Assist patients in engaging with leisure activities that enhance their mind, body, and spirit, and help them adjust to life with disease, injury, or disability

– Analyze and report behavioral patterns to the treatment team or other healthcare professionals

– Requisition, store, and maintain equipment and supplies necessary for recreational therapy

– Implement and deliver recreational therapy programs that positively impact the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of psychiatric inpatients

– Assess and evaluate patient needs and interests through various methods related to recreation and social adjustment

– Develop and implement individualized therapy plans, keeping all team members informed of patient progress through written and verbal reports

– Schedule patient sessions and maintain attendance and therapy records

– Collaborate with utilization review social services, discharge planners, and therapy teams to facilitate successful patient discharges

– Assess and recommend purchases for equipment and supplies relevant to therapeutic recreation

– Abide by department policies, procedures, and operational guidelines

– Supervise students and volunteers as needed

– Participate in departmental in-service training, teaching sessions, and other departmental activities

 Required Skills

– Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with patients and healthcare team members

– Ability to assess patient needs and develop appropriate therapeutic interventions

– Excellent organizational skills to manage schedules, records, and equipment supplies

– Knowledge of recreational therapy principles and practices
