Job Description

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is seeking Problem Resolution Staff to join the Public Health Clinics team within the Disease Control Division. This vital role involves direct patient interaction, data collection, patient education, and supporting the management of sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and follow-up. Candidates will work across various clinic sites, helping to ensure the highest quality of public health services and patient care.

Contract Details

• Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (one hour unpaid lunch)
• Total Weekly Hours: 35
• Work Location: Various sites
• Medical Clearance: Required
• Fit Testing: Required
• Pay: $42.50/hr

Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare or public health setting
• Ability to obtain and document demographic data
• Experience conducting patient interviews
• Knowledge of medical, referral, and educational needs assessment
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education preferred

Skills and Requirements

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to facilitate patient education sessions
• Proficient in proper specimen collection and labeling
• Accurate record-keeping and data entry into medical records
• Ability to counsel patients before and after STI testing
• Ability to make appropriate referrals and share results with the medical team
• Ability to recall and educate patients regarding reactive results
• Schedule and refer patients for follow-up services as needed
• Must be able to work at various clinic sites as assigned
• Must pass required medical clearance and fit testing

Duties and Responsibilities

• Obtain demographic data and conduct brief patient interviews
• Assess and determine patients’ medical, referral, and educational needs
• Facilitate patient education regarding clinic services and STI prevention
• Collect and label specimens for laboratory examination
• Record patient-level information in the medical record system
• Counsel patients before and after STI testing
• Make appropriate referrals and share results with medical team members
• Post laboratory results and recall patients as needed
• Educate patients regarding reactive results and schedule follow-up appointments
• Ensure compliance with all clinic protocols and procedures
