Job Description

Join a specialized facility dedicated to pediatric and adolescent behavioral health, featuring an inpatient unit for children with developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health conditions. This facility offers comprehensive, family-centered care through a multidisciplinary team, addressing critical mental health needs for youth in Central New York.

We are seeking compassionate and experienced Mental Health Therapy Aides to support the care of children and adolescents in our inpatient psychiatric unit.

Contract Details

• Start Date: 6/06
• End Date: 9/10
• Location: Syracuse, NY
• Shifts Available:
  • Days: 12-hour shifts
  • Evenings: 12-hour shifts
  • Nights: Mix of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts
• Schedule: Every other weekend and some holidays required
• Pay:$28 per hour

Qualifications

• Current CPR certification
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required; 2 years preferred
• Previous inpatient psychiatric care experience strongly preferred
• Pediatric experience highly desirable

Skills and Requirements

• Proficiency in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to interact therapeutically with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a safe, developmentally appropriate environment for pediatric patients

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect patient care under nursing supervision
• Take and record vital signs; monitor intake and output
• Assist with admissions, physical examinations, hygiene needs, and daily activities
• Collect patient specimens as needed
• Transport and orient new patients to unit routines and safety protocols
• Support therapeutic activities and de-escalate crisis situations
• Conduct routine safety checks during assigned shifts
• Report patient observations and changes in condition to the nursing team
• Apply clinical and psychological interventions appropriate to the patient’s developmental stage
• Contribute to unit management and team-based care
