** Art Therapist **

Location: Syracuse, NY

Salary: $38.00 / hr

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Art Therapist to join our psychiatric team at a leading hospital in Syracuse, NY. The ideal candidate will utilize creative arts therapy to improve patients’ physical, mental, and social well-being.

 Qualifications

– Master’s Degree in Art Therapy

– Licensed Creative Arts Therapist within 2 years of appointment required

– Art Therapist limited permit required by time of appointment

 Key Responsibilities

– Assess and evaluate patient needs and interests through various means relative to Recreational and/or Social Adjustment

– Plan and conduct activities for individual clients and patient groups

– Assist patients in leisure activities to engage and improve mind, body, and spirit

– Analyze and report behavioral patterns to the treatment team

– Develop and implement individualized therapy plans

– Therapeutically de-escalate and work with potentially aggressive or violent patients

– Document progress through written and verbal reports in the medical record

– Schedule patients and maintain accurate attendance and therapy records

– Collaborate with nursing, medical staff, utilization review, social services, and discharge planners

– Assess, recommend, and requisition equipment and supplies for therapeutic recreation

– Supervise students and volunteers

– Participate in departmental in-services, teaching, and other activities

 Required Skills

– Strong interpersonal and communication skills

– Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

– Excellent observation and analytical skills

– Proficiency in various artistic media and techniques

– Knowledge of psychological theories and therapeutic approaches

– Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations

 Work Environment

– Function under general supervision of a coordinator/Clinical Director

– Work in a hospital setting with diverse patient populations

– Potential exposure to challenging behaviors and situations requiring de-escalation techniques
